Are you a current RMIT English Worldwide or Foundation Studies student who wants to study over the break? That's great. However, you might not be sure what to do or where to start and be curious about how to plan your time around the festive events.

Reading study tips for your holidays

Graded reading is a great way to improve your:

  • Reading skills 
  • Vocabulary
  • Critical thinking skills

British Council has online graded reading with practice activities for:

  • Elementary (RMIT English Worldwide Levels 2 and 3)
  • Intermediate (RMIT English Worldwide Level 4)  
  • Upper-intermediate students (RMIT English Worldwide Level 5 and 6, plus FS)

How can I practise my listening skills? 

British Council also has online graded listening:

  • You can listen to a story at the right level for you (see levels above).

TED Ed have online lessons for students: 

  • Choose a topic you are interested in and complete the activities
  • Suitable for REW levels 6 and 7, and FS students

Study Tips and Plans during holidays

 To help you achieve success, try making a:

Study Plan Checklist

  • Decide what you would like to study today. Look back over your class notes and make a list of things you understand, and what you need extra practice with.  
  • Also, look at any assignments you have coming up. Do you need to work on these? Making a study plan should be the first thing you do. You can use the university assignment planner to help you. Click here to see more. 
  • Don’t study all day! Call a friend or family member and say hi. It’s also important you keep talking with people and don’t feel lonely. 
  • Make time every day to relax and take breaks.
