RMIT English Worldwide launches new EAP curriculum

RMIT English Worldwide (REW) has officially launched its new English language curriculum, ‘English Academic Passport’.

Including more than 1000 hours of print materials and 300 hours of e-learning activities, the EAP program is more international and youth oriented, with greater focus on the development of academic skills.

Rachel Holthouse, Chief Executive Officer of RMIT Training and Director of REW, said REW was possibly the only ESL publisher with the capacity to road-test their product through real class settings before printing.

“As a small company we have produced a product that can stand up against the more established publishing houses that develop ESL material,” she said.

“Developing this standard of curriculum and assessment is something most Australian language centres have shied away from, but we’ve chosen to invest in our reputation as a leader in English language programs.

“The project symbolises many of the things that RMIT Training is becoming known for – dedicated staff who are passionate about what they do and who are committed to quality, specialised expertise that caters for specific market needs, bold projects that distinguish us from our competitors, and positive collaboration with partners that result in achievement.”

REW has been producing customised course and assessment materials since 2000, with courses regularly reviewed and updated in response to user feedback. In 2007, REW undertook the redevelopment of five levels of its EAP curriculum and assessment materials, from Pre Intermediate to Advanced Plus.

Seamus Fagan, Director of the University of Newcastle’s English Language and Foundation Studies Centre, and also associated with NEAS and English Australia, formally endorsed the quality and innovation of the program.

“Unreservedly I was extremely impressed by the quality of the product that the team here at REW has developed. I believe organisations like REW have played a significant role in enhancing Australia’s reputation as a quality deliverer of EFL/ESL programs both onshore and offshore.”

The REW curriculum is the result of detailed consultation with students, English language teachers and university lecturers to devise a course that meets the needs of international students on a pathway to university degrees and other higher education programs. The suite of materials includes teacher and student books, eCourse materials, syllabus guides, audio, assessment and grammar guides.

REW is an activity of RMIT Training, a company associated with RMIT University.
